A New Week

I don’t think I have ever been so happy to see a week end as I was on Saturday. Some of the clients who frequent the http://drycleaningstationcolumbus.com are old and grumpy, some are down right hard to please and come in with a shell so hard it is nearly impossible to break thru.3d_woman_mad_hg_wht Yes, dear customer the sleeves I altered on your silk jackets without stabilizer, because the manufacturer did not do it that way either, does not look good after the presser blew too much steam thru it. I should have gone with my gut instinct when shortening your sleeves and stabilized them.  But I ask you, really, really, thread color on your other two garments aren’t satisfactory? (one shade lighter and in an area never to be seen.) I also did not cut a hole in your garment, and I will not replace this jacket, the trim which is giving your fabric texture and pattern was not finished to keep from unraveling, it happens to be a manufacturers defect. I will however mend it, but do not be surprised if this happens again in other areas of this garment. These are the things I would have loved to explain to her, had I been given the opportunity. I was not. The customer spoke only to the Manager, he knows nothing about sewing or alterations and told her all the wrong things. I am not sure why she didn’t come and speak directly to me ever. Maybe she knew she was being just a tiny bit nit picky? Or maybe she just didn’t like me, it seemed as if she was going out of her way to avoid me. That’s okay if she did. I believe in everything I do and if I make an error I will be the first to point it out and correct it. I would have handled this situation in a different manner, apologizing (which I did only by phone in order to get her back to the store) and quite possibly refunding some of the charges in order to please the customer for future business. Well, you know what? Customers like this I don’t need or want. When all is said and done, with Miss Picky Pickerton, you wind up making no money and spend a lot of time trying to please someone who can’t be pleased. I know people like this it is never good enough.

So on with the new week at hand, for last week and that customer is behind me. Even though the sun is not shining and the weather is now cold, the redos have been delivered and new alterations with hopefully happy grateful customers will be taken care of this week with Care and Pride.

I’m Sorry!

sad faceMy morning did not go so well, It started off great, I rose from my bed around 7:00 am for I had a comforter to alter. This task went better and quicker than I expected leaving me a little time to catch up on a few things, like fbook updates, and checking e-mail. 8:30 rolls around and the Man is up and in the shower. He was preparing for his trip to Indy to visit his Father. No, I was not going to accompany him, he didn’t ask me to go, just planned the trip on his own. He does this often. I am not considered, but I do know I would be welcomed if I wanted to go, being asked with a romantic stay in a hotel for the evening would be mighty fine to me and something I most definitely would welcome. This sorry goes out to him, even though I did nothing wrong, his misconstrued perception and whatever mood he was in perceived my helpfulness  (what I felt was just being helpful) as nothing but less than. Computer stuff he was trying to do, files and programs I know. I realized only after he left the room and stomped away I had done something wrong, I walked away from the task at hand to leave him to his own resources. When the Man noticed I left the task to him he was not at all pleased, this turned into anger on his part and then this happened.smiley face blowing its topall at once he seemed to blow his top. He loudly explained to me how I made him feel, (his perception) yelling at me to be exact.  I said to him that was not my intention, he wanted me to continue with the task I seemed to have taken out of his hands, I kindly refused because of his childish behavior. Do not yell at me, I will shut down..

It is said “No one can make you feel inferior, (or an idiot as he said I made him feel) unless you give them permission” So unless you are an idiot how could I have the power to make you feel like one. I think you to be quite brilliant in your own right. I respect and love you. As I wore this fight for a bit it made me want to cry, he was going out of town and this was the note he was willing to leave on. Not sure what crawled up his butt this morning but I know what crawled up mine. Never, never offer help and guidance unless it is asked of you. So this is my I’m sorry for trying to help you I have been put in my place.

I promise it will never happen again.

I think he should return with an I’m sorry for me. How about you?

End of Week

As my week comes to a close, which in actuality is Saturday the alteration business has gone pretty well. I have done a few rushes, while schmoozing the customers to keep them coming back. The shock of previous fitter is finally subsiding. I am doing everything I can to win over  these customers so they believe in me and will not seek out another Alteration Shop. Goal, to do everything I can to stay 1 step ahead of the work load and never falter finishing the work for the due date. The past two weeks the monies earned has nearly doubled seeing as how I now get to sew everything down to the smallest repair myself, the employees have willingly jumped on board with asking questions and charging for minor repairs ofte given away. Nothing in life is free and definitely my talents are not as well. If it was so easy to sew on a button I wouldn’t be doing this myself, all customers would take care of it as they fall off. It is astounding to me how few people these days can sew on a button, heck even the Man and Soldier Son can accomplish this along with threading a needle.imagesCASIR9K1 needle and thread

Any thread will do, but you may have to sew it back on at some point in the future, if the thread is to old as depicted in the pic above. Haha. The shop environment also is user friendly now, everything in its’ place and a place for everything. The Man is going to make an opening from the work space for easier access to the fitting room where the mirrors are the best and the fittings can be done in private without the customer having to walk through the cleaning, tagging area, which is a little of an eye sore. It is my hope and the Managers that the upgrades I am doing may inspire the owner to renovate the lobby and bring it into the 20th century, all that is needed is a splash of paint, better lighting, and fresh carpet. Time to rid the place of all the wear and tear and bring life back into a thriving business. Your surroundings in the workplace can make a big difference in getting the quality of work desired from your employees. Our workplaces should imitate our Life and Home, hopefully neat and orderly to function at the highest level and be the best we can be in everything we endeavor

So go ahead, get to it, if you aren’t already organized, get organized you will feel better about going to work everyday. I do with the little cleaning up I have accomplished thus far.
